Juliette Miranda’s introduction to the music industry and career as a writer began before she was legal. More industrious than the typical music fan, Juliette launched her own fan-magazine at the age of 16. “It was really just an excuse to spend time with my favorite local bands,” she says. She never expected the publication to take off the way it did. However, what started as a fanzine eventually grew into a full magazine. Within two years, Juliette’s independent publication (named Over The Edge) had a readership of more than 2,000.

She ran the magazine for six years, funding the publication through ad sales, small subscriptions, and donations. “It was an amazing experience,” Juliette says. “I got to interview and tour with some of my favorite bands.” Her list of interviews reads like a Who’s Who in Rock, ranging from Bon Jovi to the Scorpions to Pat Benetar and Motley Crue.

Upon graduating college (“Cum laude, thank you very much,” Juliette adds), she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of working in the music industry. “For five years I slugged it out in that town,” she says, “and it still pisses me off that it didn’t work out the way I had hoped.” Her adventures in LA included public relations jobs with several record labels, several producer credits with ill-fated television shows and internet sites, and a pile of rejection letters. It wasn’t until she moved back to her hometown of Chicago that Juliette was able to reclaim her success as a writer.

“My father had to fly out to LA and pry my fingers from the palm tree I was gripping,” Juliette admits. “But it’s a good thing he did.” Since relocating, Juliette has enjoyed a two-year stint as a monthly editorial columnist with an affiliate of the Chicago Sun-Times and a position as executive producer of a local music documentary television series. She went on to become the managing editor with a publishing company, overseeing the creation of travel guides and lifestyle magazines, and her freelance portfolio includes columns with music-oriented websites and reviews in fashion and beauty magazines.

Juliette has just published her first book, Morning Neurosis.

She plans to continue to share her life experiences with her readers. “I try to bring passion, creativity, and honest expression to everything that I write,” Juliette says.”I just want to make a connection with people through my words.”

With that, Juliette extends an apology to all those who may know her honest expression a bit too well. “What can I say? Be careful around writers. Nothing is ever entirely off the record.”
